MYCELIUM SUBSTRATE STUDY
2021
Mushroom mycelium, various ingredients
⌀90 mm

The common substrate for mushroom mycelium is hemp, especially abandoned stem part. Mycelium obtains nutrients from the nature wastes to grow and finally it becomes a composite material. As it’s hard to find hemp in Korea, we tested other materials to see new texture or colours. We experimented with small particles such as rice, egg shell, coffee or grain and as a result, various possibilities were found out. Particularly rice makes refined and white texture of mycelium.
